Coronavirus (COVID-19)

(updated 3/23/2020)

Bosque Women’s Care takes your health and our community’s health very seriously during our current COVID-19 epidemic. This is an evolving situation and we are closely monitoring information from the New Mexico Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control to make the best decisions to keep our patients, staff, and community safe.

With the Governor's order to stay at home, we wanted to reassure you that as healthcare providers we are considered "essential" and thus will remain open at this time for previously scheduled and/or urgent appointments (acute problems like bladder or vaginal infections, severe bleeding, etc), non-routine visits (procedures like IUD placements or biopsies for example), and ultrasounds. We will be rescheduling our patients over age 60 for non-urgent visits for their safety. Some patients can be scheduled for phone visits.

We will be advising our providers and support teams not to come into the office if they have flu-like symptoms. We are hopeful that we will be able to maintain sufficient staffing to provide care until this crisis subsides.

We will be making some temporary changes to office policies to protect everyone’s health.

  • At this time, we recommend that all women with serious pre-existing medical issues, have been exposed to someone with Coronavirus, have traveled outside of New Mexico in the last 14 days, or are age 60 and over please reschedule their appointments. If you feel it is an urgent matter, please call the office and speak with one of our Medical Assistants to help assess if this is something you need to be seen for in the office, in Urgent Care, or if we can take care of it with a phone call.

  • We ask that no family members accompany you to your appointment. If they arrive with you, they will be asked to wait in the car or you can reschedule your appointment.

  • We will close our Juan Tabo office for the time being. We will also be closing on Fridays until further notice.

  • If you have flu like symptoms (fever, headache, cough, body aches, etc.) we will have to reschedule your appointment.

As healthcare providers, we support the recommendations to stay at home as much as possible. “Social distancing” has also been shown to decrease transmission of infections. Additionally, we recommend washing your hands frequently with soap and water (or hand sanitizer if soap and water aren't available).

We have always been very diligent about cleaning and have always used alcohol-based hand sanitizer as well as disinfecting cleaning products in our office. We encourage frequent hand washing. We have also increased the use of disinfectant wipes or sprays on surfaces and “high-touch” areas.

We also want to remind our patients that we provide gynecologic care. Unlike primary care or internal medicine clinics, we do not treat patients with colds and flu. If you need medical care for these conditions, please seek help from your primary care provider or an urgent care.

The Surgeon General of the US and The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as the American Association of Gynecologic Laproscopists have all recommended we halt elective surgeries. Hence we have rescheduled all surgeries for at least the next 30 days.

For up-to-date information on the developing situation in New Mexico, we are encouraging patients to monitor the Coronavirus page on the New Mexico Department of Health website.  At the New Mexico Department of Health website, you will find the latest official information on COVID -19 in our state as well as guidance for self-protection.

Gynecology & Gynecologic Surgery

Dr. Carrie Swartz is a Board-Certified doctor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Swartz grew up in Kansas and went to the University of Colorado in Boulder where she earned her degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. She returned to Kansas to attend medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City and Wichita and earned her M.D. From there, she moved to Albuquerque and fell in love with New Mexico during her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Before opening her gynecology practice in Albuquerque, she was in private practice in OB-Gyn in Boulder, Colorado.

She now limits her practice to gynecology and gynecologic surgery to better focus on her patients' needs.
She also speaks Spanish.
In her free time, she enjoys photography, skiing, and hiking with her husband and her two boys.
